Jennifer Barker


Jennifer has wide-ranging teaching experience in primary and secondary schools throughout her career in education.

Leadership in schools and within a local authority have led to improving schools and outstanding practice. She is an additional team and lead inspector of many years experience across all phases of education.

Her continuing passion is for school improvement through the work of teachers and leaders improving their own professional practice to raise achievement for all pupils.

  • Analytical skills in identifying the key strengths and areas for improvement in a school,
  • working with leaders at all levels to develop their skills in monitoring the progress of

pupils through observations, work scrutiny and marking.

  • Developing improvement planning and supporting and guiding teachers, middle and senior leaders in the processes of monitoring and review to assess outcomes and impact.

Specialist areas:

  • Development of literacy for pupils and young people, including those working at the highest level, across the school
  • Curriculum development for those with special educational needs and developing the skills of teachers for the effective use of support staff and resources in the classroom
  • Specific literacy programmes for individuals and groups, based on evaluation of their starting points and close monitoring of progress.
